Cholesterol
Cholesterol is carried through the blood by particles called lipoproteins, which can be either low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL cholesterol is often referred to as “bad” cholesterol because it can build up in the walls of arteries, leading to atherosclerosis and an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. HDL cholesterol is often referred to as “good” cholesterol because it helps remove LDL cholesterol from the blood.
High cholesterol levels are often the result of an unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and genetics. Treatment for high cholesterol may involve lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet and regular exercise, as well as medications such as statins to lower LDL cholesterol levels [1]. It is important to monitor cholesterol levels regularly, especially for those at increased risk, and to work with a healthcare provider to manage cholesterol and reduce the risk of complications
